Medical Breakthrough in Northern Syria: Facial and Jaw Reconstruction After Cancer Surgery

Successful Facial and Mandibular Reconstruction at Bab Al-Hawa Hospital

A complex surgical procedure was successfully performed at Bab Al-Hawa Hospital by the maxillofacial team led by Dr. Amer Al-Khatib, to reconstruct the lower jaw and chin of a patient who had previously undergone multiple failed surgeries following osteosarcoma removal.

The reconstruction used a free fibula flap from the patient’s right leg, involving bone and skin segments, with precise microvascular connections in the neck. The graft was reshaped to match the facial structure and restore soft tissue.

The patient is now stable, off the ventilator, and under follow-up care by a skilled team led by Dr. Mohammad Hamrah and several expert surgeons from various hospitals.

Gratitude to the entire medical team for their exceptional efforts.
